Meet Cassandra Rice

Cassandra Rice is the candidate that Montgomery County deserves.

Since entering private practice, Cassandra Rice has concentrated the majority of her work in probate law, handling estates, guardianships, trust administrations, and probate litigation. She has personally served in the very same fiduciary roles she often guides her clients through, giving her firsthand insight into the emotional weight and practical demands placed on executors and guardians. That lived experience, combined with her legal advocacy, provides her with a balanced perspective—one that appreciates both the human realities that families face and the technical requirements that the law demands.

Cassandra began her legal career as staff attorney to Judge Gregory Singer of the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court. While serving as staff attorney, Cassandra assisted Judge Singer, Montgomery County Probation Services, ADAMHS, Eastway, and other stake holders in developing the model and programming for one of the first all-female specialty courts in the State of Ohio, called the Women’s Therapeutic Court. The inaugural docket was held in June 2014, and after two years of successful graduations, the Women’s Therapeutic Court received certification from the Ohio Supreme Court in 2017. The Court has been in continuous operation ever since. The docket is now known as Recovery IS Empowering (RISE) Court, and it remains a successful, women-specific model for specialized substance abuse treatment and recidivism reduction in Ohio.

Both in and outside of her practice, Cassandra is constantly involved in non-profit initiatives and service. Cassandra is a member of the Board of Advocates for Basic Legal Equality (ABLE) and Legal Aid of Western Ohio (LAWO), two non-profit law firms that provide legal services and representation to underserved and underrepresented communities, including in Montgomery County. Cassandra led both organizations as President of the Board from 2022-2024, leading in the selection of a new Executive Director for ABLE and the development of a new Strategic Plan for both LAWO and ABLE.

Cassandra also served on the Associate Board for the Dayton Art Institute, and was a member-at-large for the Dayton Bar Association. Cassandra also offers legal representation to non-profits in the Miami Valley area so that all charitable organizations can afford and receive competent, qualified representation in their legal affairs.

Cassandra has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Sociology from Purdue University, completing all course requirements in three and a half years. While in school, Cassandra further served as a respite provider, providing a temporary break from caregiving to families of children with physical and mental disabilities. From her service, Cassandra became familiar with the complexities of disabled persons, and witnessed firsthand families’ experiences and struggles in navigating the legal system on behalf of their children as they reached adulthood.

For almost 20 years, since attending the University of Dayton School of Law, Cassandra has called Montgomery County her home. On the third day of law school, Cassandra met and fell in love with her husband, Michael. They have been happily married for eleven years and have two boys, Cameron and Ethan. You can find Cassandra coaching her sons’ basketball teams on any given Saturday or Sunday between November and March.

Cassandra is licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio, the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
